What you need

An iPhone Duo with iOS 27.1 or later. Fold Tally works only on iPhone Duo. On any other iPhone it shows "Fold Tally needs iPhone Duo." Tap See a Sample there to look around with made-up folds. Nothing is saved.

Set up counting

  1. Open Fold Tally. Tap Set Up Counting, or tap the gear, then Automatic Counting.
  2. Under Make the Shortcut, tap Open Shortcuts and make a shortcut named Count Folds.
  3. Tap Automation, choose Opened or Closed, then Closed.
  4. Add the Log Fold action from Fold Tally.
  5. In the shortcut's Info, tap Privacy and turn on Allow Running When Locked.
  6. Close your phone, then open it.

The bar at the bottom of the screen says "Fold counting works." when the fold was counted.

The shortcut runs a "When iPhone is Closed" automation that starts Fold Tally's Log Fold action each time the phone closes. If Shortcuts asks you to confirm each time, or the automation does not run while the phone is locked, check that Allow Running When Locked is on.

If something looks wrong

"That fold wasn't counted. Check that the automation is on."

Tap Open Count Folds. In Shortcuts, check that the automation is on and set to Closed.

"That fold was counted twice. Turn off the extra automation."

More than one automation runs Log Fold. Tap Open Shortcuts and turn off the extra one.

"Fold Tally needs iPhone Duo."

This iPhone is not an iPhone Duo. Fold Tally cannot count folds here.

"Earlier folds couldn't be read. New folds still count."

Fold Tally could not read its saved history. New folds are still saved. Please do not delete the app. Email us first.

"Widgets can't read your folds."

Email us with your iOS version.

A widget shows older numbers than the app

Widgets can take a few minutes to catch up after a fold. The app always shows the latest numbers.

Widgets

Add Fold Tally widgets from the widget gallery on the Home Screen or Lock Screen. For Daily Folds and Calendar, touch and hold the widget, tap Edit Widget, and choose what the squares show: Count, Date or Off.

Your data

Your folds are stored only on your iPhone. There is no account and no cloud copy, so we cannot restore them. Deleting Fold Tally deletes them. Read the privacy policy.
